The fact that scientific progress makes the world go round is obvious. Still, various explorations and theories have had different effect on society and culture. The aim of this essay is to compare and contrast the cultural response to quantum physics in the USA and Europe, and their previous reaction to Darwin's theory.

Darwin's theory has had a revolutionary impact on the development of science and cultural background of the world. The Origin of Species was highly criticized by European scientist Thomas Huxley, who rejected the idea of evolution in the context of Darwin's theory. On the contrary, the American scientist Asa Grey shared Darwin's point of view and supported the theory of evolution as the unique one. At the mean time, religious part of society was outraged, and expressed protests both in Europe and the USA, as Darwinism totally destroyed the belief in divine creationism. The biggest objection was expressed by American Protestants and Theological Seminary.

The cultural reaction to quantum physics was a little bit different. The discovery of atoms and its particles by Niels Bohr led to recognizing of thinner layers of materials. Actually, quantum physics can explain the existence of soul. Thus, it contradicts to the Darwin theory, which is materialistic, indeed. Speaking about cultural reaction on it, it is important to point out that quantum physics emerged from a speculative European culture in the decades bracketing World War I. The interesting fact is that it was rejected neither in the USA nor in Europe. In spite of the fact that its theory is based on relativity, the essence of this branch of physics can be further investigated and explained.

Summing up the evidence, it is clear that quantum physics has had a greater impact on world culture, both in the USA and Europe. Darwin's theory had an effect of blowing bomb, as it presented quite a new theory of development of mankind. As this theory did not coincide with the previous data, it was sharply criticized. On the contrary, the cultural reaction to quantum physics was rather positive, as it allowed future development of art and science.
