I love Animal Crossing Bells and I agree that faux-RPG mechanisms wouldn't make for a better Animal Crossing, but in many ways New Horizons felt like step back from New Leaf. The decoration methods are enhanced but the furniture variety is lacking, so it felt much harder to make something that felt like it's represented me. I've seen plenty of very creative layouts, but I have also seen a ton of basically the specific same kitchen or bedroom or living space. It doesn't help that they destroyed the customization choices of NL by creating just like half the items not able to be customized, so forcing you to wait forever or attempt to trade for the ideal color box couch.

Having the ability to personalize your island is very trendy, but the real time aspect means that my island felt half baked. I'd begin to execute an idea, spend two weeks moving buildings, then realize that I don't like the result. I suppose I need to concentrate on the positives of the island reshaping, but that was definitely something that left me feeling uneasy.

The crafting system is cool, but the lack of infinite durability tools has basically made me not want to touch the game . I see no reason why gold gear need to break. Or why any tools will need to break. Can it be only a mild annoyance to make/buy new tools? Sure. In Breath of the Wild, your weapons burst. Some found this annoying, I really liked it. Why? Since it forced me to use unique weapons that acted differently, and it gave some significance to the weapons I stored to get strong enemies. And I had many weapons at once and gathered them passively so changing to a new weapon wasn't a job. At New Horizons, switching to a different fishing pole after yours breaks changes nothing about the gameplay. Each rod is the same as the last, there's no significance to any fishing rod. Unless you are actively timing your use to coincide with excursions to offer your fish then you'll have to waste time working into a shop or crafting seat. It is a badly designed system that buy bells for animal crossing new horizons directly up ruined fishing and bug catching.
